If you have any questions please feel free to contact Mrs. Mugford at [email protected] or call the school at 802-877-3761 ext 5209 In band we learn how to treat our instruments gently and carefully, how to set them up and take them apart, and the basic techniques to start us off in our first year of playing band instruments.
We mostly work out of our red Standard of Excellence (SOE) book. Each page covers music theory topics that the musician will need to know to play the music correctly. Students can play along with recordings listed here:
YOUTUBE PLAYLIST (below) or the CD that came with their book.
If you need a CD, please let Mrs. Mugford know and she can let you borrow one!
You can record songs on FLIP and send them to my email- [email protected]. Let me know if you would like me to set you up with a Flip Account. ___________________________________________________
Students should be practicing at least 4 days a week for at least 30 minutes each time. Here is what a typical practice session should look and sound like:
1. 10 minutes- Set Up Instrument and Warm up (Scales, Scale exercises, and Sight Reading new songs from SOE book )
2. 15 minutes- Focused practicing of harder material. Work in SOE book, clap and count rhythms, and work on other pieces that we are currently working on in class.
3. 5 min- Finish with a song that makes you feel good so you walk away from your instrument feeling proud of yourself! This can be something easy.
